SUMMARY
This file contains important information about this online posting of
the Display Service Utility. This application replaces the
functionality of the MacTest Pro Display Patterns and Display Settings
Restore Utility. The Display Service Utility presents much of the same
functionality of these former test modules, but it puts them both into
one application that has a new and easier to use interface.

?????????????????????????? Display Service Utility
?????????????????????
Use the Display Service Utility to display video test patterns, create
and write display settings on multiscan displays, and to adjust the
geometry of specified displays. The utility runs on any Macintosh
under System 7.0 or greater. The utility will support all Apple
displays.
????? Display Patterns?????
The Display Service Utility generates display test patterns. You can
use these patterns for visual testing and alignment of one or more
monitors attached to the Macintosh computer you are testing. Select
the Standard Patterns or choose the monitor type you wish to test from
the pop-up Pattern Selections menu. To display a pattern, click on the
icon of the desired pattern. Click the mouse or press any key to
return to the pattern selection screen.

????? Display Patterns?????
Click on the icon of the desired pattern. Click the mouse or press any
key to return to the pattern selection screen.
?????Parameter Setting Restoration?????
Before you replace the microprocessor controller board in either the
Apple Multiple Scan 17 Display, or the Apple Multiple Scan 20 Display,
use this utility to create a file containing the digital display
settings stored in the old EEPROM, and then transfer the display
settings from the saved file to the EEPROM on the new controller
board.
? Note: ? After the new controller is installed, the new EEPROM will
have default settings that should allow the utility to send data to
the display. Although the display may not be optimal, once the
settings from the old EEPROM are transferred to the new EEPROM, the
display should be correctly restored.
1) Attach the serial (mini-DIN8, Apple service p/n 590-0552) cable
between the printer or modem port of the computer and the serial port
on the back of the display. There may be a small plastic cover on the
serial port at the back of the monitor.
? Note:? If you use the printer port, AppleTalk must be off.
2) Launch the Display Service Utility.
3) Select the Apple Multiple Scan 17 & 20 Display in the Pattern
Selections menu.
4) Click the Create File button under the Parameter Setting
Restoration heading. This reads the current parameters and creates a
file called "Parameters Settings". Do not move or rename this file.
? Note: ? The display raster will turn black for a few seconds, then
return to normal.
5) Quit the Display Service Utility and shut down the computer before
continuing the repair.
6) Complete the repair on the display from which you?ve saved EEPROM
settings.
7) Connect the serial cable from the computer to the monitor.
8) Turn on the computer and launch the Display Service Utility.
9) Click the Write File button. The utility displays the message
?Successfully wrote the data to the display.? The Utility also deletes
the data file to prevent you from inadvertently writing the data to
some other display.
?????Warning?????
Do not delete the file created by this utility until you?ve
successfully written the saved data to the EEPROM on the new
controller board. Otherwise, you will not be able to complete the
repair and you will need to return the entire display to Apple for
whole-unit exchange. Also, make sure you only write the file back to
the same display from which the EEPROM data was saved. Since every
display is unique, writing the data to any other display will cause
problems.
?????Warning?????
Always disconnect power before beginning to repair or replace
components such as the controller board in a display.
???????????????????????Power Macintosh 5200?????????????????????????
????? Display Patterns ?????
Click on the icon of the desired pattern. Click the mouse or press any
key to return to the pattern selection screen.
?????Adjust Geometry?????
The Adjust Geometry function will not work properly if the CloseView
Control Panel is loaded on the Power Macintosh 5200. Use Extensions
Manager to prevent CloseView from loading, or restart the Power
Macintosh 5200 with extensions off. (Note that simply turning off
CloseView is not sufficient, because the control panel will still be
loaded.)
Use this button to adjust the geometry of the Power Macintosh 5200
display. This requires that the monitor adjustment cable (Apple part
number 922-1513) be connected between the analog board and the serial
port on the Macintosh.
