Decoder is a utility that decodes and decompresses various types of
encondings and files. The newer the version, the more types are
supported. The latest versions, 4.0.x, compatible with Macs of all
architectures, support the following:

 * AppleSingle
 * BinHex
 * MacBinary(versions I, II, and III)
 * UUencoded
 * MIME (base64, etc)
 * yEnc
 * ZIP
 * GZ
 * TAR
 * Tarball (TARed then GZipped)

The latest versions for each platform are as follows:
\- Decoder 4.0.4 for Mac OS X 10.3.9+ (Universal binary) and Windows
95+;
\- Decoder 4.0.3 for Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar (PowerPC binary), untested
in 10.0 Cheetah and 10.1 Puma;
\- Decoder 4.0.1 for 68k and PowerPC SSW 7, 8 & 9 (FAT binary), 68020
processor minimum.

[According to the author][1], "Decoder 4.0.1 is virtually identical to
version 4.0.3 in features and performance" and, regarding [changes
from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4][2], "there is a minor bug fix for handling
corrupt MacOS X Zip archives. There is a significant bug fix on
Windows for running in a modern security environment such as that of
XP in 2008".

Aside from version number, separate binaries are available for
different target platforms, so make sure to download the one intended
for your platform. Each download is accordingly named, and ordered by
version number. Some Mac OS versions are also available in French,
including the latest one, 4.0.1.

All other versions are archived here for historical reasons, and in
case they provide better stability, accuracy and compatibility with
specific systems. They may also be useful if file size is of concern
(especially for older 68k Macs).

Note: Even older versions are available on the [Decoder (Columbine
Technology)][3] and [Decoder (Harmony Software)][4] pages - the
programmer changed the name of his company.

The Windows versions are not archived here, but may still be accessed
