Coda da Code is a helper application, used as a MIME/base64 and
UUEncoded(.uu) file decoder for usenet (newsreader) applications, such
as [NewsWatcher][1] and [MT-NewsWatcher][2], etc. It uses [Internet
Config][3] or Internet Control Panel to set the appropriate file type
and creator codes, and to post-process decoded files.

> Decode da Code is a Carbon-compliant way to decode binary newsgroup
> postings on the Mac. It handles the MIME Base64 and uuencode
> formats. It can parse multi-part MIME mail messages including the
> AppleDouble format, segmented uuencoded files spread across multiple
> postings, and parse the long filenames that Windows users like to
> give MP3 files into a folder structure.
>
> Decode da Code was designed as a helper application for Internet
> News applications such as NewsWatcher, to extract binary files.
> Decode da Code runs quickly and silently without ever coming to the
> foreground, so you can continue working without interruptions. It
> can use Internet Config to set the appropriate file type and creator
> codes, and to post-process the decoded file. You can set preferences
> for deleting original files, handling long filenames, and error
> notification.
> For details on setting up Decode da Code and setting your
> preferences, see the Decode da Code User Manual.

> * Update history:
> * 1.5 - Added a checkbox for disabling the launching of post-
> processing applications, and a radio button for truncating the
> extensions of long filenames.
> * 1.4.2 - Fixed display bug with progress bar on large files.
> Default buttons in dialogs now appear properly.
> * 1.4.1 - Reinstated the auto-quit feature which was left out of
> version 1.4.
> * 1.4 - Added Carbon support.
> * 1.3 - Added feature which stores a file's complete long
> filename in the its comments field.
> * 1.2.2 - Fixed a bug which would drop the last line of a
> uuencoded file.
> * 1.2.1 - Fixed problem with handling segmented uuencoded files
> where there are header lines in the text. This might happen when
> extracting binaries in NewsWatcher where the file is segmented
> across multiple postings, and result in glitches in MP3 files or
> corrupted files. Version 1.2.1 fixes this problem.
> * 1.2 - Added options for working with long filenames and for
> notification preferences.
> * 1.1.1 - Decodes twice as fast as v.1.1 because I added disk
> caching to the file write routines.
> * 1.1 - Decodes twice as fast as before.
> * 1.0.4 - Fixed bug where cancelling while decoding would delete
> the file if you had the 'Delete Original' option turned on.
> * 1.0.3 - Checks if text files are actually ASCII text files,
> Can handle requests to process more files while it is already
> decoding a file.
> * 1.0.2 - Fixed minor bugs.
> * 1.0.1 - Can decode uuencoded files split into multiple parts.

Compatibility
Architecture: 68k PPC PPC (Carbonized)
Confirmed to run at least under Mac OS 9.2.2.
* This was a US$12 - US$19 shareware program with payment links to
the now defunct Kagi site.
* Unregistered versions 1.0 ? 1.1.1, will not expire, have limited
features, or nags.
* Later Coda da Code versions required personalization and may nag
on occasion unless registered.
* Version 1.5 & 1.6 are the only Carbon copies we currently have.
They're PPC Carbon encoded for Mac OS 9 or X.
* All of the earlier versions will run on classic Mac OSs 7.0+ 68k
or PPC (FAT).
* Of the above DL's; Currently, only v1.5 includes a User's Guide
(DL's 2 - 5 include "ReadMe" docs).
* v1.6 (DL#6) includes no documentation and although a Carbon app,
it is in a Mac OS X zip archive (requires OS X built-in Archive
Utility to upzip correctly).
* v1.6 (DL #7) has been added for easier access on classic Mac OS 9
systems.
