There are two modes of operation: the first lets you choose a color
from anywhere on the desktop using an eye dropper cursor. As you move
the cursor around, you'll see the color of the pixel under the cursor
in the splotch area of the window along with the color's RGB values.
To choose that color, click the mouse button. After choosing a color,
the hex value for that color will be generated. YOU CAN PRESS THE
SPACEBAR ON YOUR KEYBOARD AS A SHORTCUT FOR CHOOSING THE EYE DROPPER.
I wrote that in caps because I think it's a useful shortcut and don't
want you to miss it.
The second mode of operation is to choose a color from the standard
system color picker. Just click the mouse in the color splotch (that
block where the colors are displayed) of the window and the color
picker will come up.
Choosing Copy from the edit menu or pressing Cmd-C will copy the
current hex value to the clipboard. The hex value does not have to be
selected, and regardless of the current selection in the hex value
field, the entire field is copied. This is non-standard behavior, I
know. I hacked this program in minutes just because I wanted a way to
snatch colors from off the desktop--something that none of the other
applications in this category offer. Hopefully I'll clean this up
sometime soon, but don't bet the farm on it.
