>
> by Sig Software
>
> ## Introduction
>
> Classic Menu brings the classic Mac OS apple menu back to Mac OS X,
> replacing the system's built-in apple menu (but keeping it within
> easy reach). It also lets you customize the ordering of the menu
> items and include separators.
>
> ## Requirements
>
> ? An Apple Macintosh or other MacOS-compatible.
> ? Mac OS X 10.4 or later.
>
> ## License
>
> Classic Menu is freely distributed as trial software. You are
> permitted to evaluate it before discarding it, or purchasing a
> license. The unlicensed version is fully functional but occasionally
> displays a reminder to purchase a license.
>
> Classic Menu costs just $10 per license. Licenses can be purchased
> online at Sig Software's online ordering page:

> ## Getting Started
>
> When Classic Menu is launched, the appearance of the apple menu icon
> will change. The system's apple menu can be accessed by control-
> clicking the apple icon. You can change how to access the system
> menu in the preferences.
>
> The new apple menu lists the contents of the Classic Menu Items
> folder in the Preferences folder of your user's Library folder,
> which is created containing a few initial items. Items can be added
> to this folder by dragging files from the Finder onto the apple icon
> or using the commands explained below. They are displayed in
> alphabetical order by default but can be reordered (see below).
>
> To open a file or folder, select it from the hierarchical apple
> menu.
>
> To reveal an item in the Finder, select it while holding down the
> Command key.
>
> To show the information window for an item in the Finder, select it
> while holding down the Shift key.
>
> ## Ordering and Separators
>
> New in version 2.8, Classic Menu lets you customize the ordering of
> the items in the apple menu, and add separators. This works by using
> prefixes on the file and folder names inside the Classic Menu Items
> folder.
>
> Each prefix is followed by a >> (double right angle bracket).
> Classic Menu sorts the items according to the prefix, and any items
> with the same prefix are ordered alphabetically. This enables you to
> group items and control the ordering precisely.
>
> You can also include a separator in the menu by creating an empty
> folder in Classic Menu Items whose name is the appropriate prefix
> followed by a single hyphen (-).
>
> Here is an example of how to name the items in the Classic Menu
> Items folder to create groups:
>
> A>>Documents
> B>>-
> B>>Accounts
> B>>Invoices
> B>>Legal
> C>>-
> C>>Applications
> C>>Office Apps
> C>>Utilities
>
> Here is another example using numerical prefixes to set the ordering
> exactly:
>
> 01>>Documents
> 02>>-
> 03>>Legal
> 04>>Accounts
> 05>>Invoices
> 06>>-
> 07>>Office Apps
> 08>>Applications
> 09>>Utilities
>
> For numerical prefixes, make sure you always use the same number of
> digits, padding with zeroes if necessary.
>
> ## Other Menu Items

a user-specified area of the apple icon or holding down a customizable
