Highest database/definition upgrades applicable to clamav (command
line anti virus) in the Leopard Server 10.5.8

10.5.8 (the Server not Client) comes with "ClamAV" accessible in the
Terminal command "clamscan" and prior to adding any Security Update,
it will address "148100 known viruses" under clamav "engine version"
0.94.2 - this was I believe never updated since the 2007 release of
10.5.0 Server. Security Update 2011-002 (and thru combination 2011-004
also) upgrades the clamav engine & database, to a 2011 version of
course. After one of these security updates, Leopard's clamav engine
number turns 0.96.5 and its known malware (the name viruses is but one
type of malware) gets to be "852104".

This download has the database/definition files for 0.97.4 the latest
year 2012 able to be applied to engine 0.96.5 - as well as a backup of
the 0.96.5 databases and everything in between them (0.97.0 0.97.1
0.97.2 0.97.3). Install instructions are in the download. Updating the
engine number however, could be possible but with many engine files
integrated into the OS, daunting.

list of Database# -> known malware# (on an intel Mac)
0.96.5 .. 852104
0.97.0 .. 880838
0.97.1 .. 971698
0.97.2 .. 1006584
0.97.3 .. 1054224
0.97.4 .. 1165630

Database versions consist of two .cvd (clam virus definition) files,
"daily.cvd" and "main.cvd" or a quickscan and a fuller scan. I believe
clamscan (I use the command "clamscan -ri {directory name}") runs both
definition files each session. With definitions higher than the engine
version, sometimes the report mentions 1 or 2 "errors" occurred when
scanning, though nothing to worry about when for example tens of
thousands of files are scanned against over one million malware
possibilities, and there's but 1 or 2 such "errors".

This 0.97.4 upgrade to the 0.96.5 engine is, I'm willing to speculate,
rather important, due to Macs beginning to experience a particular
nasty trojan malware late 2011 named "Flashback" which prompted the
release of a "Flashback Removal Tool" from Apple. ClamAV 0.96.5 likely
doesn't know much if anything about Flashback, and 0.97.4 made in 2012
likely addresses it.
