This font collection from Bitstream includes two CDs, Typeshop, and
Typeshop Pro, for a total of 1,143 typefaces. Although the one CD says
1,085 and the other "over 100", so I assume there are some duplicates,
or the total is incorrect!
Bitstream were known for having digitised a large number of existing
fonts from the early 80s onwards, under new names, with few newly
designed fonts. Fonts have only limited protections and so apparently
changing the names was sufficient to protect them from litigation.
Bitstream were involved in BeOS with their font rendering technology
being used as well as a number of their fonts included by default.
Ultimately they were bought by Monotype and are no longer active.
