Onalaska Republican Ryan Huebsch will once again challenge Democratic incumbent Steve Doyle for the 94th Assembly District seat in November.

Huebsch lost to Doyle in a close race in 2022, with Doyle pulling ahead by 2.6% of votes, just under 800 voters. Now, he is running for a second time in hopes to unseat the longtime incumbent.

“As people look at our country and our politics today, they wonder, ‘How did we get here?’” Huebsch said. “While our politicians fight, our families are hurting under a struggling economy and inflation that just keeps driving up the price of everything. It is sad, but the saying, ‘The most expensive vehicle to drive in Wisconsin is the grocery cart,’ is a harsh reality for too many people.”

Huebsch’s father, Mike Huebsch, previously held the seat from 1995 to 2011. Doyle is seeking his eighth consecutive term.

Huebsch’s campaign announcement comes just two weeks after Doyle announced his re-election campaign.

“Most of our elected leaders are at or well past retirement age. This election marks the 40th year since Steve Doyle first started running for office in 1984. Our current representative has been in politics since before many of us were born, and it is hard to say things have gotten better while he has been there.” Huebsch said. “It is time for the next generation to accept the challenge to step up and lead.”

Huebsch works as the executive director of the Wisconsin Conservative Energy Forum, a nonprofit group focused on clean energy resources.

The 94th Assembly District has been extremely competitive and almost evenly split among voters for years.

With Evers’ new maps, the 94th Assembly District is expected to be very competitive, with Biden winning 2020 votes in the redrawn maps by nine ballots cast. The district still is predicted to have a slight Democratic lean. The new district primarily contains the northern part of La Crosse County and the southern part of Trempealeau County.
