THE DISTRICT
This safe Democratic seat, anchored in Madison, includes Rock, Green, Lafayette, Iowa, Sauk and Dane counties.
THE NUTSHELL
Incumbent U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan, D-Black Earth, is seeking a seventh term in office in November. A former co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Pocan is a vocal critic of the United States’ massive defense budget. He’s also been critical of the U.S. response to the war in Gaza. He faces no primary challenger on Aug. 13. In November, Pocan will face the winner of the Republican primary, which features a rematch between Erik Olsen and Charity Barry. Olsen is a Madison native and attorney. He defeated Barry, a former staffer for U.S. Sen. Johnson, by just 63 votes in the 2022 GOP primary.
