Wisconsin Watch is seeking a full-time director of engagement, growth and innovation to help advance our commitment to strengthen the quality of community life and self-government in Wisconsin by providing people with the knowledge they need to navigate their lives, drive forward solutions and hold those with power accountable.
Reporting directly to the chief executive officer, the director of engagement, growth and innovation will be an essential part of the Wisconsin Watch leadership team. This director will help Wisconsin Watch determine the best ways to bring trustworthy local news to audiences across the state with a special emphasis on people we’re not serving now. This leader will help us study existing data, survey people in areas where we’re expanding, conduct listening sessions, determine high-priority news and information needs, and discover where audiences are getting their news and how we can best serve them. The director will help us find product partners and corporate partners and guide new product development. The director will help us communicate the value of our work to readers, viewers, listeners, partners, members and supporters.
The right candidate will be innovative, creative, collegial, familiar with social technology and able to build relationships, manage multiple priorities and lead teams effectively.
Wisconsin Watch pursues the truth through accurate, fair, independent, rigorous, nonpartisan reporting. We value transparency, collaboration, innovation and a spirit of public service. These priorities guide our investigations, which expose wrongdoing and deficiencies, explore solutions to problems and bear witness to those in vulnerable circumstances. The same values guide our training of the next generation of journalists.
In this role, the director of engagement, growth and innovation will:
● Manage Wisconsin Watch’s community engagement, marketing, promotion and outreach.
● Work closely with Wisconsin Watch’s audience director, digital editor and producer, News414 project manager, audio-video director, regional directors, membership director, chief revenue officer, news editors and community members.
● Lead execution and analysis of audience needs and growth surveys.
● Work with external stakeholders on growth strategy.
● Guide new product development (for example, mobile apps, social video reports,
newsletters, community engagement events) to support Wisconsin Watch’s
overall growth and impact.
● Have a sophisticated understanding of social networks and demonstrate the
ability to reach new audiences through evolving and innovative technology
solutions.
● Understand content production and have an awareness of content platforms and
audience needs.
● Demonstrate the ability to oversee the development of and interpret audience
surveys.
● Understand the nuances of how to lead and manage teams, partners and
community events.
● Have a track record of innovation and creativity.
