Joe Biden Administration Approval Ratings and Hypothetical Voting Intention (18 January 2024) [1]

The latest research by Redfield & Wilton Strategies finds that 47% of Americans disapprove (–) and 38% approve (-2) of President Joe Biden’s overall job performance as President. His net approval rating (-9%) is two points lower than in our previous poll conducted on 8 December.

Vice President Kamala Harris’ net approval rating stands at -6% (+2). In our latest poll, 42% disapprove (-3) and 36% approve (-1) of Kamala Harris’ performance as Vice President.

The economy (60%), immigration (35%), and healthcare (31%) are the top three issues American voters say will determine how they vote in November.

The economy is the most-selected 2024 Election issue for both Donald Trump 2020 (71%) and Joe Biden 2020 (54%) voters. Other important election issues for Biden voters include abortion (43%), healthcare (39%), and the environment (26%), while 52% of Trump voters select immigration, 29% select government spending, and 22% select healthcare.

Looking ahead to the 2024 Presidential Election, Donald Trump maintains a commanding lead in the Republican Presidential Primary.

Among likely Republican Primary voters, following his commanding victory in Iowa, 72% say they would vote for Trump to be the Republican Party’s nominee. No other candidate achieves double figures, with Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley tied on 9% and a further 5% undecided as to how they would vote.

On the Democratic side, 77% of likely Democratic Primary voters say they would vote for Joe Biden to the party’s candidate in the General Election, while 3% would vote for Congressman Dean Philips and 2% for Marianne Williamson. 6% would vote for other, unnamed candidates to be the Democratic nominee, while 12% are undecided how they would vote.

Looking further ahead, our latest hypothetical voting intention finds Donald Trump leading Joe Biden by one point nationally.

After weighing by likelihood to vote, 42% say they would vote for Trump and 41% say they would vote for Biden if they were candidates in 2024. 5% would vote for either a Libertarian (2%), Green (1%), or other (2%) third-party candidate, while a further 10% say they don’t know how they would vote.

If Joe Biden and Donald Trump are the candidates for the two major parties in the next Presidential Election, 41% of Americans currently say they think Donald Trump would be more likely to win, while 34% think Joe Biden would be more likely to win. 12% believe it would be a toss-up.
