Senegal's journey: Applying the WHO integrated post-validation/verification surveillance (PVS) toolkit for NTDs to build an integrated PVS plan [1]

This webinar brings together countries and stakeholders to share experiences and insights on conducting integrated surveillance for Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) following the validation or verification of their elimination as a public health problem. Senegal has become a model in Africa for implementing post-validation surveillance (PVS) for onchocerciasis. After stopping mass drug administration in 2022, the country began a 3-year surveillance phase, using the WHO PVS Toolkit to align with the 2030 NTD roadmap. The approach emphasizes cross-sector collaboration, community involvement, and integration with national health systems.
Panelists will present the development of the WHO Integrated PVS Toolkit and share the experience of Senegal’s Ministry of Health and Social Action (MSAS) in piloting its use to create an integrated PVS plan for both lymphatic filariasis and onchocerciasis. The discussion will highlight practical challenges, solutions, and lessons for countries that have recently eliminated or are nearing elimination of onchocerciasis.
