7th GEHM report launch: Strengthening health systems for migrant and displaced populations in the context of climate change [1]

[]

Date: 2025-07-29

Background

Worldwide, more people are on the move now than ever before, yet many migrants and displaced populations face poorer health outcomes than the host populations. Addressing their health needs is a global health priority and integral to the principle of the right to health for all.

Climate change is a risk multiplier, intensifying migration and displacement and exposing affected populations to complex challenges from communicable disease outbreaks to mental health crises and disruption of essential services. To address these intersecting risks, health systems must evolve to ensure access to quality care for all, strengthening preparedness in a rapidly changing global environment.

On 29 July 2025, WHO Health and Migration will host a global virtual launch webinar of the seventh report in the Global Evidence Review on Health and Migration (GEHM) series, titled Health system strengthening interventions to improve the health of displaced and migrant populations in the context of climate change.

This report was developed in close collaboration with the WHO Environment, Climate Change and Health drawing on a review of 95 health system interventions across six WHO regions. The report identifies effective strategies, research gaps, and key policy directions for building climate-resilient, migrant-inclusive health systems.

Join us to explore evidence-based strategies and policy solutions designed to meet the urgent and complex needs of migrant and displaced populations in a changing climate.

Launched on 17 June 2021, the GEHM series is an evidence-informed, normative product designed to address policy questions on migration-related public health priorities. The series also aims to fill knowledge gaps and propose policy considerations on the health status and health policies related to refugees and migrants by summarizing the best available global evidence.
