Background
Oxygen is an essential medicine used to care for patients at all levels of the health care system. It is life-saving for severe respiratory illnesses like COVID-19 and pneumonia, and for surgery and trauma management.
Oxygen must be available to all patients who require it, especially vulnerable groups such as the elderly, pregnant women, children and newborns.
