Meeting of the Guideline Development Group for the WHO living systematic reviews and recommendations on screening and treatment of cervical precancerous lesions to prevent cancer [1]

The World Health Organization’s Department of Noncommunicable Diseases, Rehabilitation and Disability (WHO/NCD) is developing recommendations on screening and treatment of cervical precancerous lesions to prevent cancer.

Following the 1st meeting in December 2022 setting the priorities for evidence monitoring of novel technologies on cervical screening and treatment, the GDG will meet again in Spain from 23 to 25 September to evaluate evidence for a potential new recommendation on the use of HPV extended genotyping on cervical screening and treatment and for an update of the current recommendation on the screening interval when using of HPV mRNA testing, and to discuss continuation of evidence monitoring on current and new priorities

The specific objectives are to:

discuss formulation of two recommendations supported by current strong evidence: the use of HPV extended genotyping for the clinical management of HPV positive women, and the extension of the interval between HPV screens when performed using HPV mRNA tests;

debate about the current status of screening and treatment techniques and approaches for women living with HIV

present progress on the work done on the other priorities; and

update on novel screening and treatment techniques/approaches in the pipeline, such as cervical screening for vaccinated cohorts, AI tools across the screening continuum, among others.

In line with WHO policy on conflict of interest, members of the public and interested organizations can access the biographies of the GDG members and inform WHO of their views about them. All comments should be sent by email [email protected] by 21 September 2024.
