Resilient and scalable MCM ecosystem: i-MCM-Net Partners meeting for advancing timely and equitable access to medical countermeasures against pandemic threats [1]

[]

Date: 2024-09-17

Background

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted collective vulnerabilities and the need to strengthen the international community’s preparedness to future pandemics. The WHO-led interim coordination mechanism aims to enhance collaboration for timely and equitable access to medical countermeasures (MCM) against pandemic threats, through a network-of-networks approach (i-MCM-Net) by leveraging existing networks in the global MCM ecosystem, without prejudging or precluding INB discussions, while awaiting the finalisation of the INB deliberations. The current focus of the i-MCM-Net is to understand how ready the world is in terms of equitable access to MCMs, should a new pandemic threat emerge. Including to identify gaps and potential priority actions to improve readiness. With a view to enhance coherence and foster synergies, WHO is-convening i-MCM-Net partners for an in-person meeting from 17 to 19 September 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland.

Scope

This meeting will provide an opportunity for i-MCM-Net to update on the latest activities across the MCM ecosystem, prepared in collaboration with existing networks. Additionally, it will provide opportunities for having in-depth discussions and gaining insights on potential ways of working among stakeholders across the MCM value chain, with equity, inclusivity, and cohesiveness at the centre of pandemic threat management. The meeting aims to engage participants in a collaborative working session across the MCM value chain to ensure relevance and alignment with existing networks, initiatives, and ways of working.

Purpose

The meeting's goal is to provide updates across the i-MCM-Net partners, as well as to present and enhance proposals for ways of working across the MCM Network. With a focus on pandemic threats such as Pandemic Influenza, Novel Coronavirus, and Pathogen X, the objective is to encourage targeted and practical initiatives for assessing MCM readiness against priority risks.

Expected outcomes

Enhance communication channels to foster ongoing conversations among key MCM Network stakeholders, improving collaboration for timely and equitable access to pandemic medical countermeasures.

Provide input on practical and effective ways of working across the MCM Network, ensuring meaningful input on developing, producing, accessing, allocating, and deploying MCMs against pandemic threats.

Participants

Nominated representatives from the i-MCM-Net partner organisations.

Format

This event is in-person only. Attendance to be confirmed upon confirmation after the registration.

Language
