Launch of WHO Operational framework for monitoring social determinants of health equity [1]

[]

Date: 2024-02-20

Social determinants of health – that is, the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work and age, and people’s access to power, money and resources – impact health outcomes and drive widening health inequities within and across countries. Nearly two decades ago, WHO’s Commission on Social Determinants of Health set out an agenda to support countries in addressing social determinants of health. Despite high-level commitments by many governments, progress in implementing the Commission’s recommendations remains insufficient.

In response WHO has released critical new guidance for countries, namely Operational framework for monitoring social determinants of health equity. The resource will support governments and their partners to monitor the social determinants of health and actions addressing them. It will also promote the use of data for policy action across sectors to improve health equity. Along with the forthcoming World report on social determinants of health equity, this operational framework spearheads renewed efforts to address the social determinants of health.

The operational framework will be presented during a global webinar on 20 February 2024 from 14:00 – 15:00 CET. The webinar is open to all relevant stakeholders. Join us here:
