NTD Indaba: a roundtable to discuss the critical funding crisis affecting the implementation of NTD programmes and to set out opportunities for sustainable financing [1]

[]

Date: 2023-02-01

Following on from the first ever European Roundtable on neglected tropical diseases (NTDs): “One Health, Health System Strengthening – Sufficient approaches to tackle NTDs?” which took place on 29th November 2022, the NTD Indaba will discuss actions to be taken in light of the theme of World NTD Day 2023: Act Now, Act Together – Invest in NTDs.

This follow-up meeting will be in the form of an “Indaba”, involving leaders from donor and endemic countries. The NTD funding crisis threatens the gains made over several decades and risks the attainment of SDG 3.3 – a 90% reduction in the number of people requiring an intervention against an NTD by 2030 – and the WHO NTD road map targets. Above all, it threatens to leave over a billion of the poorest people in abject poverty with an increased risk of morbidity or mortality.
