Blanca Méndez joins Verite News as Audience Editor [1]

Verite News is excited to announce that Blanca Méndez has joined our growing newsroom in the newly created position of Audience Editor.

In her new role, Méndez will guide Verite’s audience outreach strategy. She will work with the editorial team to bring our work to a wider audience through social media, direct outreach and multimedia initiatives.

“Blanca’s expertise will help Verite News help us to better nurture relationships with our audience and develop strategies to best engage our readers,” Editor-in-Chief Terry Baquet said.

Originally from Eagle Pass, Texas, Méndez holds a degree in journalism from Northwestern University. Before she arrived in New Orleans, her past lives included stints teaching English in Seoul, organizing queer Latin dance parties in Chicago and writing about music and pop culture for Glamour, Rolling Stone, Spin and Vice. Most recently, she worked as the community engagement editor for the San Antonio Report.

“I’m excited to join a newsroom that’s serious about serving and centering marginalized communities, especially in today’s climate,” Méndez said. “Verite journalists are doing incredible work to bring thoughtful and useful news and analysis to the people of New Orleans, and I’m eager to work with them to connect with a larger audience, build trust and make an even greater impact.”
