TechWomen First Global Alumnae Summit Advancing Women’s Leadership in STEM [1]

Casablanca, December 4, 2024 – U.S. Ambassador to Morocco, Puneet Talwar, today delivered opening remarks at the first-ever TechWomen Global Alumnae Summit, hosted by the U.S. Department of State and implemented by the Institute of International Education (IIE). The summit, taking place from December 4 to 6 in Casablanca, has brought together 154 alumnae from 21 countries across Africa, the Middle East, Central and South Asia, and 45 U.S. mentors to empower women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Talwar underscored the significance of the summit by saying, “This summit represents a pivotal moment in advancing women’s leadership in STEM fields globally. By hosting the inaugural TechWomen Alumnae Summit in Morocco, we not only celebrate the program’s impact over the past decade, but also reaffirm our commitment to empowering women and girls in technology, fostering economic growth, and driving innovation. This event is a powerful reminder of the enduring partnership between Morocco and the United States in shaping an inclusive, innovative, and prosperous future.”

The summit, which was announced by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken during the 2022 TechWomen 10th anniversary, features a series of dynamic workshops and networking opportunities. These sessions cover key topics, including Women Leaders in STEM & the A.I. Revolution, Sustainable Practices and Climate Resilience, and Empowering the Next Generation: Bridging the Gender Gap in STEM. Additionally, the summit includes the TechWomen Pitch Competition where alumnae will pitch innovative business ideas and community projects, showcasing their commitment to addressing global challenges.

Since its launch, TechWomen has connected women from diverse regions with U.S. mentors, offering hands-on experience in leading tech hubs. The summit highlights cross-cultural collaboration and the program’s role in addressing global challenges, while also inspiring the next generation of women tech leaders. It underscores the shared commitment of the United States and Morocco to innovation, gender equality, and inclusive economic growth.
