We're looking for an enthusiastic and talented Donor Relations Officer to join our team and help strengthen relationships with funders while supporting our mission to foster informed citizenry through evidence-based public discourse.
The Conversation Indonesia (TCID) is a non-profit media organisation producing and sharing evidence-based news and analysis from academics and researchers on our online platform, social media channels, and through videos, podcasts, and email newsletters. All of our content is free to read and republish. We provide training for academics to increase their capacity to become a public voice.
We share knowledge from the research sector with the public to foster an informed citizenry and facilitate meaningful public dialogue to promote the use of evidence in policy-making in Indonesia.
Founded in 2017, we are part of a global network spread across five continents that provides a new journalism model, a unique collaboration between academics and journalists sustained through partnerships with the higher education and research sector, private philanthropy, governments, corporations and with support from readers. We implement Work From Anywhere (WFA) policy with occassional formal meetings and gatherings at our office in the National Library.
About the Role
As a Donor Relations Officer, you will be instrumental in broadening our funder base, developing compelling grant proposals, and nurturing relationships with funders. Reporting to the Development & Stakeholder Engagement Deputy Director, you will play a key role in ensuring the sustainability of The Conversation Indonesia (TCID) through strategic fundraising and impactful communication.
The initial contract period is 3 months, to be extended to 9 months (for a total of 12 months) following a performance evaluation. Following the annual performance evaluation, an extension to one year is possible.
Main duties and Responsibilities
Funder Engagement & Cultivation
Build and nurture strong relationships with existing, past, and potential funders.
Develop targeted funder cultivation strategies and implement thoughtful engagement plans.
Monitor funding opportunities and prepare responses aligned with TCID’s mission and goals.
Create and maintain a comprehensive database of funders to support relationship-building efforts.
Strategic Support
Conduct research to map funding landscapes in areas such as independent media, democracy, and science communication.
Analyze data to create a funding landscape map and provide insights for strategy development.
Support the creation of annual target lists and align funder opportunities with TCID’s activities and objectives.
Grant Writing & Proposal Development
Collaborate with internal teams and facilitate the development of compelling concept notes and grant proposals.
Manage coordination of proposal submissions to ensure alignment with TCID’s strategic priorities.
Qualifications:
Education:
Minimum a Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Development Studies, International Relations, Communication, Journalism or a related field.
Experience:
2-3 years of experience in non-profit program development and management or related roles.
Proven ability in grant proposal writing, program development and project management.
Skills:
Exceptional facilitation skills with the ability to guide diverse groups toward productive outcomes.
Strong project management skills, including multitasking, prioritising, and meeting deadlines.
Excellent research and writing skills in English and Indonesian with attention to detail.
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
