St John’s College within the University of Sydney is a residential Catholic community dedicated to enriching the lives of young men and women. Established in 1858, St John’s is committed to student participation in College life through high academic standards, supportive pastoral care and leadership formation through service to others. It offers more than 250 residential students the opportunity to embark on a journey of intellectual and spiritual growth within a collegial environment.
The College Council now seeks to appoint the next Rector following the announcement that Adrian Diethelm will step down after eight years of distinguished service.
The Rector will lead and inspire the St John’s community through its vision and mission. Responsible for developing the community’s understanding of the Catholic intellectual tradition and its social teaching, student welfare, academic progress and pastoral care, the Rector will manage a multidisciplinary team to deliver on the College’s strategic intent.
With a future focus, the Rector will seek to build strong relationships inside and outside the College. Effective engagement and communication skills are essential for the role while business acumen and operational effectiveness will ensure the sustainability of the College. A background in philanthropy is desirable.
