About Melbourne Bioinformatics
Melbourne Bioinformatics is hosted at the University of Melbourne within the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry & Health Sciences in Parkville. Experts in software development and bioinformatics support researchers with research design and grant applications, advising on computing options, engaging in deep research collaborations, developing bioinformatics algorithms and software, creating and delivering both online and hands-on bioinformatics training, and running the MSc (Bioinformatics) course, as well as supervising PhD students.
About the Role
The Bioinformatics Application Specialist will be directly involved in coordinating and supporting high profile research collaborations across Australia that will need to utilise various bioinformatics analyses and infrastructures to produce valuable data assets.
This exciting role will involve:
Engagement and coordination with bioinformatics and infrastructure stakeholders from various organisations engaged with ABLeS (universities, museums, zoos, herbaria, Bioplatforms Australia and computational infrastructure providers).
Directly assist researchers and communities to deploy, debug, optimise and enhance their software and workflows
Liaise with and coordinate across experts within infrastructure providers to deploy and optimise required tools, pipelines and other technologies
Coordination and standardisation of software and data-related aspects and informatics workflows across projects, and between projects where relevant
About You
You will be an excellent communicator who has experience with bioinformatics tools, methods, data analyses and data management in at least one specialist area. Ideally, you will further have:
PhD, or equivalent demonstrated experience in a relevant discipline
Demonstrated experience across cloud and high-performance computing environments
Demonstrated experience in bioinformatics workflow engines (e.g. nextflow), containers (docker, singularity) and software management technologies and methodologies (e.g. git)
Demonstrated experience in supporting researchers and groups in bioinformatics on various infrastructures
