About the opportunity

Griffith University’s School of Medicine and Dentistry is currently recruiting to a Lecturer in Communication Skills role, and is seeking applicants with demonstrated expertise and experience in developing and managing curriculum and course requirements within a medical program.

The successful candidate will be expected to make contributions to the teaching and learning, research and service efforts of the School of Medicine and Dentistry and to carry out activities to maintain and develop scholarly, research and/or professional activities relevant to the discipline of medicine, with a focus on communication skills.

The incumbent will support the School’s educational mission in relation to the medical program. They will contribute to the implementation of high-quality learning and assessment activities in the Doctor of Medicine program. The incumbent will also contribute to the broader mission of the School through scholarly and service activities as negotiated with their supervisor.

This is a full-time, continuing position based at the Sunshine Coast Health Institute. The successful candidate will be expected to attend on our Sunshine Coast site, in person as a normal requirement of the role.

As the MD program is delivered at the Gold Coast campus, on the Sunshine Coast through the Sunshine Coast Health Institute and Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service, and through our Rural Clinical School (based on the Darling Downs), the incumbent may be asked to work across sites in collaboration with the relevant University staff and clinicians who support program and course delivery. As such, you may be required to work on either a temporary or an indefinite basis at any premises which the University currently has or may subsequently acquire or at any premises at which it may from time to time provide services.



About you

To be successful in this role you will possess the ability to foster an outstanding student experience and to encourage active participation and engagement in learning and teaching across the MD program, facilitating high quality, student-centred learning activities consistent with Griffith Graduates of the Future strategy.

You will have a commitment to fostering innovation and a future-focused approach to support high quality learning and teaching outcomes for students evidenced by technology enhanced learning, problem oriented, authentic learning, and assessment practices. Further, you will have a demonstrated track-record in promoting and supporting a student-centred service culture and establishment of positive, respectful, and supportive relationships between staff and students.

Applicants will be expected to possess:

a doctoral qualification in a relevant discipline (health sciences, biomedical sciences, psychology or education) and/or a medical degree from a recognised educational institution;

demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in teaching communication skills and facilitating experiential learning for health professional students;

demonstrated ability to organise and coordinate a complex program of activities;

experience in working with simulated patients and developing scripts to facilitate the learning of communication and history-taking skills by health professional students; and

expertise in simulation debriefing.

It would be desirable for candidates to have registration as a health professional with AHPRA.

Salary range

Base Salary: $98,174 - 116,584 per annum. Salary package includes 17% employer superannuation $114,863 - $136,403 per annum.
