Date: 2024-04
Williamson County resident Kiran Sreepada confirmed Monday he will run as a Democrat against 5th District U.S. Rep. Andy Ogles.
Sreepada, who in 2020 ran against U.S. Rep. Mark Green in Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District, is the first Democrat to announce a run against Ogles. He works as a political and public policy professional.
Ogles won a contentious GOP primary in 2020 before defeating Sen. Heidi Campbell, a Nashville Democrat, in the general election.
In 2023, Rep. Justin Jones, D-Nashville, fueled speculation he would seek the CD 5 seat. He did not return phone calls or text messages asking whether he still plans to run.
On the Republican side, singer-songwriter Stokes Nelson has filed to run and reports raising — and spending — $269,400, leaving him with no cash on hand. Thomas “Tom” Guarente, a Brentwood cybersecurity expert, has also filed with the Federal Election Commission to run as a Republican, and Metro Nashville Councilmember Courtney Johnston confirmed to the Lookout she is considering a run.
