Yager earns Tennessee Chamber of Commerce award – Tennessee Lookout [1]
['Lookout Staff', 'More From Author', '- December']
Date: 2022-12
The Tennessee Chamber of Commerce and Industry has named its 2022 Champion of Commerce award winners, including Sen. Ken Yager, R-Kingston.
The annual awards recognize legislators who demonstrate extraordinary support for business and manufacturing in the Volunteer State and is based in part on lawmakers’ voting record on key business issues.
“It is an honor to receive this award,” said Yager. “Fiscal stability and economic development have always been top priorities of mine. Tennessee’s success depends on the success of its business community, and I will continue to do everything I can do in the Legislature to create an environment that allows business and industry to thrive in the Volunteer State.”
As part of a questionnaire Yager answered for the Chamber, he noted one of the biggest issues for the upcoming legislation is dealing with inflation.
“Leadership in both the Tennessee House and Senate have carefully and conservatively prepared for a future economic downturn by raising our cash reserves,” Yager wrote. “This year we added $250 million to the state’s rainy-day fund, which raised it to a historic level of $ 1.8 billion. This year’s budget also set aside an additional $1.3 billion of a $3 billion revenue surplus for future use.”
Others receiving the award were Sen. Bo Watson, R-Hixson, Rep. Dennis Powers, R-Jacksboro, and Rep. Kevin Vaughan, R-Collierville.
