WASHINGTON, D.C.— Radio Svaboda, the Belarus Service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL), has won the top spot among Belarusian media outlets in Media IQ’s 2024 ranking for upholding journalistic standards.

RFE/RL President & CEO Stephen Capus said:

“This is a well-deserved honor for our brave Belarusian journalists. Despite the Lukashenka regime’s attempts to silence our independent reporting, Radio Svaboda continues to be a trusted source of news and information for our audiences.”

Media IQ, a project of the Belarus Press Club, monitored 17 Belarusian media outlets, both independent and state-controlled, evaluating their compliance with journalistic standards including bias, fact-checking, and completeness of coverage. Radio Svaboda was recognized by Media IQ for its accurate, balanced, and ethical reporting, standing out in Belarus’ challenging media landscape.

As the media climate in Belarus continues to deteriorate under the Lukashenka regime, Radio Svaboda has faced increasingly difficult reporting conditions. Two RFE/RL journalists, Ihar Losik and Andrey Kuznechyk, remain unjustly imprisoned in Belarus.
