Deadly Earthquake Rocks Northeastern Afghanistan [1]

[]

Date: 2022-09

At least eight people were killed during an earthquake overnight in northeastern Afghanistan, officials said early on September 5.

The number of fatalities could rise, Mawlavi Najibullah Hanif, a spokesman for the governor of Kunar Province, told journalists.

An earthquake measuring magnitude 5.3 struck near the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad during the early-morning hours.

"Sunday night’s earthquake has caused financial and human loses," Hanif said.

In June, an earthquake in eastern Afghanistan left more than 1,000 people dead and destroyed several settlements.
