Report for America Collaborative and Creative Visual Storyteller - Memphis in Memphis, TN [1]
[]
Date: 2025-01
Based in Memphis, a predominantly Black and low-wealth city, MLK50: Justice Through Journalism aims to shape and shift the local news and civic ecosystem toward justice. Our newsroom believes that visual language and its subjectivity brings a distinct meaning to a story but also reflects a truth that is diligently reported. So we’re looking for a collaborative and creative visual storyteller who, using the practice of movement journalism, works against traditional models of media production that extract from communities and replicate oppression. You would be a steward of the relationship between the organization and community members. You believe that no one owes us their story; we work to earn it.
This position is in partnership with CatchLight. The corps member will be a CatchLight Local Fellow and along with the host newsroom, be supported by the CatchLight Local Visual Desk.
Salary and Benefits:
Depending on experience, $50,000 - $60,000
Benefits include professional development, health insurance, a 401 (k) match, a hiring bonus, a company-issued laptop and photography equipment, generous time off, and 12 paid holidays.
This position will be:
Hybrid (some days in the office per week)
Moving Stipend:
In place of a moving stipend, MLK50 will offer a $3,000 hiring bonus.
