FactCheck.org is a nonpartisan project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania. Established in 2003, FactCheck.org aims to reduce the level of deception and confusion in U.S. politics.



The staff writer position requires an experienced reporter with strong research skills who can write clearly and concisely on a variety of topics, work independently, collaborate well with others on group projects, and juggle multiple assignments at once.



The staff writer will monitor speeches, remarks, campaign materials and other forms of communication from major political players in the U.S. and report and write articles on the factual accuracy of their claims. The position requires knowledge of current affairs and familiarity with the legislative process and sources of government data.



In the upcoming off-election year, the focus will be on actions and debates in Congress and statements and proposals by the president and top administration officials, as well as leaders of both parties.



In addition, this staff writer may fact-check political misinformation spread on social media and write explainer-type articles on issues of political importance.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree; and at least 5 years of experience in journalism, including experience writing about government and politics; or equivalent combination of education and experience.



This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with in-person work on the University of Pennsylvania campus in Philadelphia required on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday each week. Fully remote applicants will not be considered.
