Poynter has a nearly 50-year history of building individualized solutions to grow better journalists and strengthen journalism in countries around the world. Each Poynter program aims to teach, empower and convene communities around good journalism. In doing so, Poynter strives to create healthier, sustainable information ecosystems, to build trust in journalism and to strengthen democracies around the world.
Poynter has successfully provided learning opportunities to journalists and news organizations around the world and, for over 20 years, has worked with partners such as Meridian International Center, World Learning, the Institute for War and Peace Reporting, technology companies such as Google and Meta and governmental organizations such as the U.S. Department of State, U.S. embassies and the United Nations to deliver journalism training for international journalists.
The Business Development Manager, Global Journalism, will help identify and develop future opportunities to expand this work. A strong candidate will have experience in government grant development, a history of working with the U.S. Department of State or a related government department or agency, a good understanding of journalism and some past working with partners in Central and Eastern Europe (where Poynter has been focusing some of our efforts).

In addition to supporting journalists, Poynter also leads a number of initiatives to address misinformation and disinformation. Poynter is home to the International Fact-Checking Network, an organization that supports and certifies more than 150 fact-checking platforms across the world. Poynter is also the home of MediaWise, an innovative, peer-to-peer digital media literacy program that has partnerships with the leading technology platforms and operates today in seven different countries.
As such, the Business Development Manager, Global Journalism, will also manage a portfolio of international journalism clients — NGOs and journalism organizations — who have relationships with Poynter for programming and training.
This position is fast-paced, requires keen attention to detail and a high level of personal accountability. A successful Business Development Manager, Global Journalism, is both a strong listener and writer.
