The Poynter Institute Program Specialist, MediaWise in Saint Petersburg, FL [1]
[]
Date: 2024-02
The work.
MediaWise is seeking a program specialist who will help lead and execute high-priority media literacy programs. This role will ensure timely project implementation and completion, government grant management and reporting, partnerships development, growth of a global media literacy network, and project metric tracking.
The ideal candidate is a quick learner, self-starter, and strong communicator who exhibits a collaborative and positive approach to teamwork. Of importance is a strong sense of partner relationship management, and a genuine interest in and understanding of cultural diversity. Above all, a commitment to journalistic ethics, facts, transparency, and — fun! — is key to success in this position.
MediaWise was recently awarded its first U.S. Department of State grant to launch multiple media literacy programs in Bulgaria. A bulk of this role’s workload will be working closely with in-country partners, the in-country monitoring and evaluation specialist, and writing quarterly performance reports.
We’re a small team with big ambitions — so we’re looking for self-starters who value transparency and teamwork. Intellectual humility is key. As is a sense of humor.
Who we are.
MediaWise is the Poynter Institute for Media Studies’ digital media literacy initiative. Launched in 2018, we have reached more than six million people globally through our programs. We are home to the Teen Fact-Checking Network, the world's first fact-checking newsroom run by teenagers — and a signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network. At MediaWise, we are a mission-driven team working to empower anyone with the skills to sort fact from fiction online. We support journalism and champion fact-based participation in democracy around the world.
The Poynter Institute, founded in 1975, is the world’s leading instructor, innovator, convener, and resource for anyone who aspires to engage and inform citizens. Poynter engages with citizens and journalists through custom teaching; its in-house fact-checking organization, PolitiFact; the International Fact-Checking Network; and the Craig Newmark Center for Ethics and Leadership.
