[]
Date: 2024-01
Note: This employer is open to candidates who want to work remote.
Midwest Reporter
Inside Climate News is seeking an experienced reporter to cover climate change and environmental justice in the Midwest. The successful applicant for this position will produce a body of quick-turn news and feature stories, and longer form accountability pieces that address the impact of climate change, environmental racism and pollution on the health and well-being of communities of color across the region. This journalist will report remotely from a home base in the Midwest.
Job Description
This is a demanding position that requires sound reporting and writing skills. A facility with government documents and court records is expected, as is a demonstrated commitment to reporting on justice issues.
Qualifications
This reporter will need to be a self-starter and team player who works with a high degree of collegiality. These additional qualifications, or their equivalents, are essential:
A minimum of three to five years reporting and writing experience, which can include experience gained as a student journalist, with clips that demonstrate an ability to capture the historic inequities and challenges confronting communities of color and marginalized neighborhoods that are heightened by climate change and environmental degradation. More experience would be a plus; candidates with slightly less experience but a demonstrated fire in the belly for covering environmental justice will be considered.
Knowledge of science, environment and climate, and/or civil rights, social and racial justice.
A solid work ethic, a collaborative attitude, a commitment to accountability reporting and a demonstrated passion for journalism in general, and climate and public health reporting in particular. Collegiality, teamwork and kindness are hallmarks of our newsroom.
The ability to bring diverse, unique insights to our coverage of climate change, the environment and environmental justice.
