About the Independent Evaluation Group
The Independent Evaluation Group (IEG) is the organizational unit in the Bank Group providing evaluation of, and feedback on, the development effectiveness of Bank Group activities in client countries. IEG is independent of Bank Group management and reports directly to the Board of Executive Directors, with day-to-day oversight by the Board’s Committee on Development Effectiveness.
About the Knowledge and Communications Department
Evaluation is useful only when it generates critical evidence to inform and improve decision making. The mandate of the Knowledge and Communications Department is to strengthen IEG's impact by increasing the accessibility and use of IEG's evaluation knowledge.
About the Position
The Independent Evaluation Group at the World Bank is looking for a graphic design and layout consultant to assist in laying out reports, brochures, lesson notes, and the like. The initial contract will be for 20 days (160 nonconsecutive hours).
Duties and Accountabilities
Design, lay out, and typeset reports, brochures, and other publications, including graphs and other visuals, in InDesign, with limited supervision.
Provide informed technical advice on graphic design and layout, particularly in terms of accessibility and best practices.
Collaborate with authors on data visualizations in Illustrator and Tableau.
Create infographics, banners, and other visual materials for publications and web pages.
Conduct photo research and work with authors to find or design suitable cover images for evaluations.
Liaise with internal clients and external venders.
Selection Criteria
Master’s or bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communications, publishing, communications, or other related discipline, with a minimum of 6 years (with master’s) or 8 years (with bachelor’s) of relevant experience.
Professional graphic design training through coursework or certificate program.
Expertise in graphic design demonstrated through a portfolio.
Expertise in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
Familiarity with Tableau.
Strong written and oral communication skills in English and attention to detail.
Independent, self-motivated, and creative, with excellent organizational skills.
Familiarity with evaluation concepts terminology is a plus.
Competencies
Typesetting and layout skills.
Graphic design, data visualization, and infographic creation skills.
Ability to follow IEG’s visual style guide, layout manual, and templates while laying out documents.
Proven planning and organizational skills. The ability to juggle priorities and adjust work when deadlines change.
