Position Summary

Reporting to the Pulitzer Administrator and Deputy Administrator, the Events and Outreach Manager is responsible for researching, planning, organizing, publicizing, and overseeing the execution of outside public events sponsored by the organization and held off-site and online. The Manager collaborates with the Pulitzer Administrator and Deputy Administrator to conceive event programming on relevant topics and potential program participants; ensures that all off-site event-related expenditures are compliant with University and affiliate policies, procedures and regulations; creates strategies and handles social media and website content before and after events to increase public awareness of programming and participation.

Manager’s responsibilities also include promoting the organization’s presence at other specific events, and working closely with administrative staff as required to execute internal events that are part of the department’s annual operation.

Hours Per Week: 35

Salary Range: $87,000-$100,000

Responsibilities

Researches and helps to execute events around the country. Duties include: Securing locations, technical support (including a/v), and catering; Speaker support, including invitations, travel arrangements, accommodations, and payments; oversight of relevant vendors; promotion and production of event assets (posters, programs, etc.); On-site event supervision (including facilities, setup, live streaming, recording, etc.); and follow-up as needed. Manages all event-related correspondence and inquiries. Monitors all budgeted event expenses to ensure that they are compliant with University/affiliate policies, procedures, and regulations. (50%)

Manages all publicity for events; Generates communication strategy and relevant social media and website content before and after events. (15%)

Collaborates with the Pulitzer Administrator and Deputy Administrator to conceive future events and potential guests and to debrief and troubleshoot after each event. (5%)

Travels to selected national events to represent and promote Pulitzer office activities, establishing relationships with relevant individuals and organizations. (10%)

Works closely with administrative staff to execute internal events as required by the department, including Pulitzer jury and board meetings and annual awards presentation. (15%)

Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned. (5%)

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree desirable.

At least 4 to 6 years of directly relevant experience, including event planning, execution and promotion, required.

Must possess excellent written and verbal and interpersonal skills, with particular attention to detail and accuracy.

Must have demonstrated ability to work well with a broad constituency and to maintain discretion and diplomacy; must understand Pulitzer organization’s culture and mission behind programming.

Able to work independently, and to handle multiple tasks, sometimes under pressure and on deadline.

Some travel, and evening and weekend work required.
