Do you get up in the morning intent on finding and reporting great stories? If your answer is yes, we have to talk.
The Republican, in Springfield, Massachusetts, is recruiting an Investigations Editor to play a key role in shifting our focus to in-depth and accountability reporting.
We’re a storied newspaper that will mark 200 years of publishing next year. Our founders campaigned to end slavery and, in the 1850s, suggested the name of a new national party. Today, we work closely with an affiliate, MassLive.com, to cover news throughout the state in real time.
Our newsroom is honing its mission to produce coverage that moves the needle on public understanding. We’re resetting our priorities to better fulfill reader and viewer interests today.
Our primary focus is Springfield, the largest city in Western Massachusetts, and surrounding Hampden County.
When you visit, you’ll see that we’re a great team with a sense of mission and fun. We were honored as weekend Newspaper of the Year for 2022 by the New England Newspaper and Press Association. In addition, our weekday edition was named a “Distinguished Daily Newspaper.”
The Investigations Editor will report and write, as well as guide other reporters in shaping enterprise stories. We want to speak with candidates with a proven ability to:
– Find fresh and relevant angles on important issues, then overcome hurdles in getting to the heart of an issue.
– Capture and use data in storytelling for both digital and print platforms.
– Explain issues in depth with narrative grace, keeping the experiences of everyday people in the frame.

For this position, candidates should also possess:
– A bachelor’s degree.
– Several years of experience reporting for a daily publication.
– A willingness to be part of a team, and the wish to help every team member succeed.
– An ability to set and reach daily and weekly work goals.
– A knack for handling multiple projects and a proven ability to meet deadlines.
