Poynter is pleased to announce the addition of five new members to serve on its National Advisory Board (NAB), the group of thought leaders that helps Poynter fulfill its mission to strengthen journalism in service to democracy. As Poynter brings together diverse perspectives to tackle society’s complex problems, the NAB serves as a sounding board, learning lab and wellspring of inspiration.

We welcome to the NAB:

Eric Deggans , TV Critic, NPR

Katrice Hardy , Executive Editor, The Dallas Morning News

Mark Katches , Editor, Tampa Bay Times

Anita Kumar , Standards Editor, Politico

Will Schick , Editor-in-Chief, Street Sense Media

“These journalism leaders are not only widely respected and accomplished, but they are among the brightest media thinkers practicing today,” said Poynter president Neil Brown. “Our national advisory board is a vital ally in ensuring that our teaching programs, events and coverage of the news industry are as relevant and smart as possible. We’re grateful for their participation, insights and their belief in Poynter.”

The new board members bring a breadth of expertise as media executives, digital journalists and award-winning reporters. During their three-year terms, they will help guide Poynter’s strategic direction across all areas, including diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging initiatives; ethics and leadership training topics; and community engagement opportunities.

The National Advisory Board, along with Poynter’s Board of Trustees, will convene in St. Petersburg, Florida, Feb. 16-17 for an annual conference. The advisory board will spend time with the Poynter leadership and staff and offer recommendations on programs and policies to guide the Institute in the coming year to two years.

Mike Wilson, deputy sports editor of The New York Times in charge of enterprise and investigative reporting, is the current NAB Chair. Other board members include:
