Lawrence, Kansas, is growing, and the community’s leading media organization is seeking a news reporter who can help us cover the important issues facing our area.

The Lawrence Journal-World is a six-day per week newspaper that operates the region’s most comprehensive news website, LJWorld.com. The Lawrence metro area — home to approximately 125,000 people about 30 minutes outside of Kansas City — has been a consistently growing region for decades. However, the area soon will have greater growth as construction is underway just outside of our community on a $4 billion, 4,000-job Panasonic electric vehicle battery plant.

The Journal-World has an immediate opening for a full-time reporter who will do a mix of beat reporting and general assignment reporting. The Journal-World has a variety of beats that cover government organizations, higher education, public safety, health and other areas that are important to our readers.

First and foremost, we are seeking candidates who are curious, understand the importance of accuracy and timeliness, have demonstrated writing skills, are committed to ethical journalism and appreciate the importance of local news in a community. For candidates who meet those qualifications, we will work with them individually to find the beat that best fits their skill sets and interests.

We are open to candidates of varying experience levels. Recent journalism graduates who have a strong portfolio of professional work are welcome to apply. The position also can be a great fit for journalists who currently are at smaller newspapers and want to advance their career in a larger community.

At the Journal-World, you will join a newsroom of approximately 10 full-time, dedicated journalists, including a team of locally based copy editors and designers who produce award-winning print and digital products.

Journalists here also are fortunate to work in a community that values local journalism. The Journal-World is well supported by subscribers, including a base of digital subscribers that has grown by more than 10% over the last six months.

Lawrence is a vibrant, young community. We are home to the University of Kansas, have an attractive downtown entertainment district, many outdoor recreational opportunities, and are a short drive from many of Kansas City’s most popular destinations.
