The Director of Sales is responsible for directly driving the advertising sales team to maximize selling time, sales activity and revenue for The Post and Courier, Charleston, South Carolina's daily newspaper. This position will directly supervise a group of retail account executives while also managing the retail territory and classified sales teams through their respective managers. The Director of Sales will spend the majority of time on client meetings and prospecting with the sales team.

The successful candidate will have an impeccable track record as a sales and business leader with demonstrable success in driving advertising revenues through creative and aggressive sales approaches. The ideal candidate will have ample experience driving revenue from print, digital and event marketing solutions.

This position requires an entrepreneurial mindset, with a premium on innovation and leadership. The ideal candidate will have experience at both smaller and larger newspapers or other media companies and will be able to demonstrate a record of success at all levels. That record will include building and leading large sales organizations and successfully integrating print and digital sales.

The candidate’s areas of expertise should include: directing advertising sales across media platforms; forecasting, tracking and budgeting; staff development; pricing and profitability modeling and execution; designing and improving sales compensation systems; maintaining and growing relationships with strategic accounts, and developing partnerships with the local business community.

The Director of Sales will be expected to forge strong relationships with other Post and Courier managers as well as the publishers and advertising directors of Evening Post’s community newspapers to assess and quickly seize joint revenue opportunities. This position will serve as a close partner to the Director of Revenue Operations, who oversees all post-sale efforts and project management for the advertising division.

Job Duties:

Lead advertising sales team in growing revenue through high sales activity, proposing strategic solutions to clients, identifying incremental revenue and upsell opportunities, and forging partnerships with key/major accounts.

Building a sales culture that is professional, aggressive and creative with a key focus on developing new local revenue.

Partner with Chief Revenue Officer and Director of Revenue Operations to create new revenue-driving projects and initiatives, and manage sales team to monetize these efforts achieving special project revenue goals.

Spend 70-75% of schedule on client meetings or ‘in field’ prospecting with sales team members.

Serve as digital revenue champion within advertising sales team, ensuring that team members are identifying digital opportunity while prospecting and in client discussions.

Serve as lead trainer for advertising sales account executives within Evening Post.

Lead advertising department meetings in collaboration with Director of Revenue Operations

Manage account executives and sales managers’ sales activity through Hubspot CRM – monitoring opportunities and activities in Hubspot daily.

Ensure that staff are providing an excellent customer experience and providing quality customer service.

Analyzing changing market conditions to identify new business opportunities.

Implementing new pricing and compensation plans.

Creating reports that will accurately determine trends and track and forecast revenue.

Continually train and develop advertising sales team members and managers.

Participate in revenue budgeting process; manage advertising department flash and projections.

All other duties as/when assigned by management.
