Senior News Reporter
For this full-time staff position, we are seeking an experienced, professional print journalist who can be a leader and a mentor in our newsroom, but who strives to constantly improve, even if they’ve been a working reporter for decades. For a reporter with significant experience, this position offers the opportunity to specialize, to hone in on one or two types of hard-news coverage. Enterprise reporting is encouraged. We need a “closer” who can consistently shepherd stories from concept to printed page. As a weekly niche publication with a sophisticated and highly educated audience, we must find unique ways to write the news by digging deeper, or by moving the story forward.
Bachelor’s degree and subject-area knowledge (government, healthcare, criminal justice) required.
Five or more years of newsroom experience expected, with at least two years at a daily newspaper.
Willingness to grow and adapt to different roles, or to increased responsibility in the newsroom.
Though Vero Beach is a wonderful place to retire, this is NOT a semi-retirement job (though there is NO age discrimination here).
Starting salary $42k to $50k+ commensurate with experience.
