Johnson Newspaper Corp. has an immediate opening for a Plant Manager in Massena, New York at the Johnson Printing Center. The press is a DGM-440 that has been in operation since 2002. It prints titles owned by the company in St. Lawrence and Franklin County, as well as for several commercial clients. This is a growing business that needs seasoned press leadership to help envision the future and to train and build staff to continue to grow the printing business. An eye for quality printing is critical. The Plant Manager will also help oversee planned facility upgrades. Salary is negotiable. Job Summary:

Supervise the operation and maintenance functions on the press deck and in the plate room. Have a positive attitude and be able to motivate and inspire the team. Must have reliable transportation and be able to show up for work Monday through Friday.

Essential Job Functions:

Supervise various personnel in the pressroom and plate room to ensure quality production of newspapers in a safe and timely manner.

Operate and maintain equipment on the press including:

Folder/console unit.

Register and set color and black ink during press runs.

Maintain and clean press.

Conduct setups; check ink keys, water stops, and water fountain flow, grease units, and fill ink fountains.

Web the press for the daily paper.

Bend plates and hang on plate cylinders.

Record daily runs and roll usage sheets.

Diagnose emergency repairs and coordinate all maintenance and services.

Operate and maintain equipment in the plate room and page production.

Maintain inventory.

Accountabilities:

Contribute to the overall success of the company by performing all assigned duties in a professional, timely, and accurate manner. At all times enforce all company policies and procedures as set forth in the employee handbook and enforce all safety policies and procedures as set forth in company regulations.

Qualification Standards:

Prior supervisory experience, preferably in a printing atmosphere.

At least 5 years pressroom, plateroom, and color separation experience.

Ability to understand and use technical information.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise pressmen, splicer operators, and plate room. Plan schedule, assign, check, and approve work. Instruct and train in methods. Conduct performance reviews, make hiring recommendations and make recommendations regarding promotions, salary adjustments, and unsatisfactory performance.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, sit, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, use fingers, grasp, talk, and hear. Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly.

Equipment Used:

Ability to operate a telephone, computer/printer, and all equipment on the press and plate room.

Environmental Conditions:

The employee is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions including extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, and atmospheric conditions.
