House Bill 2 passed 75-19 during last Wednesday’s session — a fraction of Republicans voted against the bill which would give $1.65 billion in state capital spending and appropriate another $350 million toward projects across Ohio.
“It moves forward the health and well-being for our community centers and also the continuous growth for higher ed here in the state of Ohio,” state rep. Al Cutrona, R-Canfield, said during Wednesday’s House session.
A bipartisan bill, HB 2, was introduced by Cutrona and State Rep. Terrence Upchurch, D-Cleveland. The bill now heads to the Senate for consideration.
All 14 public universities and various branch universities would receive money under HB 2. Ohio State University has the most money earmarked with $76.5 million for 26 projects — a mix of improvements, demolition, and renovations.
The University of Cincinnati has the second highest amount of money with $41.1 million, followed by Kent State University with $29.1 million, and then Miami University with $23.1 million.
Community Colleges

Columbus State Community College is earmarked to get the most with $16 million, followed by Cuyahoga Community College with $14.3 million and then Sinclair Community College with $11.7 million.
