Ohio State Board of Education narrows state superintendent search to three finalists [1]

['Megan Henry', 'More From Author', '- December']

Date: 2023-12

The Ohio State Board of Education narrowed down the state superintendent search to three candidates during their special meeting on Tuesday.

The candidates are:

Jeffrey Greenley —Belpre City Schools Superintendent

Paul Craft — Buckeye Valley Local Schools Superintendent

Julia Simmerer — Ohio Department of Education and Workforce Senior Executive Director for the Center for Teaching, Leading, and Learning.

The state board of education could vote to appoint the next superintendent as soon as Tuesday, the second day of the board’s monthly meeting. But that doesn’t seem likely since the board also has a special meeting scheduled for Dec. 18 to interview finalists candidates in executive session and possibly appoint a superintendent.

Interim State Superintendent of Public Instruction Chris Woolard has been serving in his role since May 28.

Ray & Associates opened the search for superintendent applications for nine days — from Nov. 15-26.

This brief has been corrected to say that Tuesday is the soonest there could be a vote to appoint the next superintendent.
