A national group has endorsed the proposed reproductive rights constitutional amendment on which Ohio voters will decide in November.

Human Rights Campaign, a group known for its LGBTQIA+ advocacy work, put their support behind the ballot initiative to put abortion rights into the Ohio Constitution in an announcement this week.

“Human Rights Campaign members and supporters in Ohio are ready to fight alongside local advocates, medical professionals and all Ohioans to ensure access to safe, legal, equitable and comprehensive reproductive medical care, including abortion, is available to every Ohioan,” HRC president Kelley Robinson said in a statement.

The group also endorsed abortion rights groups Protect Choice Ohio and Ohioans for Reproductive Freedom, who have been working to get the measure on the ballots, including the signature collection campaign that amounted to nearly 500,000 valid voter signatures submitted to the Ohio Secretary of State.

Those signatures completed the process needed to get the measure on ballots this coming November. Two different lawsuits have been filed with the Ohio Supreme Court to attempt to block the initiative, but both have been rejected by the state’s highest court.

“With its endorsement, HRC is dedicated to activating its grassroots army of supporters and volunteers in Ohio and mobilizing Equality Voters in support of the ballot initiative,” the group added in the endorsement announcement.
