NASA-ISRO’s NISAR Spacecraft Separates From Rocket’s Third Stage
About 20 minutes after NISAR’s launch, members of the mission team celebrate third-stage separation in mission control at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California. NASA/JPL-Caltech
The NISAR (NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar) spacecraft has separated from the third stage of ISRO’s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle rocket and will soon spread its solar arrays to power itself. Technicians will now work to acquire signal from the spacecraft to verify its health.
When it reaches its Sun-synchronous science orbit at an altitude of 464 miles (747 kilometers), with an inclination of 98.4 degrees, the spacecraft will circle the planet about 14 times per day.
