Poisk Mini-Research Module 2 [1]

[]

Date: 2023-11

Poisk Mini-Research Module 2 Quick Facts The Poisk module automatically docked to the orbital outpost while attached to a modified Progress spacecraft on Nov. 12, 2009. Crew members prepare their Orlan spacesuits and stage their spacewalks inside the Roscosmos segment’s Poisk airlock. Crew members wearing Orlan spacesuits exit the Poisk airlock into the vacuum of space to begin spacewalks from the orbital outpost’s Roscosmos segment.

The Poisk module is pictured attached to the Zvezda service module’s space-facing port.

Poisk, also known as the Mini-Research Module 2 (MRM2), is almost identical to the Pirs Docking Compartment and provides a port for the docking of Soyuz crew ships and Progress cargo vehicles. It also provides a place to prepare for spacewalks, as well the refurbishing of the Russian Orlan spacesuits. Poisk has the added bonus of extra space for scientific experiments, as well as power supply outlets. It is also equipped with both internal and external workstations, to accommodate science payloads and make observations.
