The Montana Republican Party announced on Wednesday that Tyler Newcombe has resigned from his role as Executive Director, after serving in the position since the beginning of the year. He will be taking on a new role as communications director for State Auditor James Brown.

“It has been an incredible honor to work with such a dedicated team on advancing conservative values across Montana,” Newcombe said in a press release. “I’m proud of what we accomplished together and confident that the MTGOP is well-positioned for the future.”

The party plans to announce a new executive director in the coming weeks.

The party hired Newcombe in January to replace Danielle Bradley, who stepped down after leading the MTGOP through the 2022 and 2024 election cycles which turned Montana into a solidly red state, with Republicans winning every statewide office and sweeping the Congressional delegation for the first time in more than a century.

While overseeing the party’s work during the 2025 legislative session, Newcombe also broke fundraising records and “set the party on a path to more victories in the coming years,” according to the press release.

“I appreciate Tyler’s service to the Montana Republican Party and wish him the best in his future endeavors,” MTGOP Chairman Art Wittich said.

Newcombe officially stepped down last week, but stayed on in an unofficial capacity through the start of the transition period. In addition to his communications work in the Auditor’s office, Newcombe also works as a political consultant for many Montana Republicans.

“I’m excited to join the office of James Brown to highlight the work he does to defend Montanans from fraud, prosecute bad actors, and assist Montanans with proactively helping them with finding the best rates for their families,” Newcombe told the Daily Montanan.

In another change at the state party, Ethan Holmes has been brought on to serve as communications director to handle press affairs and as the primary point of contact for the party.

Holmes is a University of Montana graduate who worked in communications and as a legislative advisor for the Senate Republicans during the 2025 session.

“The MTGOP looks forward to delivering the conservative agenda mandated by voters, growing its grassroots base, and keeping Montana bright red,” according to the release.
