Cascade County Commissioner James Larson selected as chairperson – Daily Montanan [1]

Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to select James Larson as chairperson for the three-person commission, ousting far-right commissioner Rae Grulkowski from commission leadership.
Larson has served on the commission since 2015, and previously served four years as a U.S. Marine as a communications technician and still ranches outside Belt.
Commissioners Joe Briggs and Larson, two more moderate conservatives on the all-Republican commission, voted to pass an ordinance in November to restructure how the chairperson is selected — from a set rotation to an internal selection process.
At the November meeting Grulkowski said she was “disappointed” at what she perceived as lack of help from Briggs and Larson and a “two-against-one mindset.”
The county also recently decided to remove election duties from Clerk and Recorder Sandra Merchant, a close ally to Grulkowski, in December.
