⚖️ State Duma moves ahead with expanded felony liability for war-related crimes: Lawmakers have approved the second reading of legislation that criminalizes incitements of actions against Russia’s national security and participation in armed hostilities against Russia. The draft law would introduce maximum penalties of seven years in prison for publicly inciting actions against the security of the Russian state, up to 20 years for participating in armed actions against Russian interests abroad, up to 20 years for defecting to the enemy’s side in any armed conflict (equating it with treason), up to eight years for secretly cooperating with foreign intelligence agencies or international or foreign organizations, up to seven years for violating Russia’s restrictions on information considered to be a “state secret,” and up to four years in prison for repeatedly displaying the symbols of Nazism and other extremist organizations.
