Loras College in Dubuque has named Mike Doyle as its president-elect, preparing him to take on the role fully once President Jim Collins steps down in spring 2025.

Doyle, a Loras alum, previously worked at the university in various positions from 2007 to 2021, including vice president for advancement and treasurer. According to a news release, he will return to the university in August after serving as president of Steele Capital Management to “ensure a smooth presidential transition.”

“I am deeply honored to have been chosen to serve as the next president of Loras College,” Doyle said in the release. “As an alumnus and long-time member of the Loras community, I am passionate about our Catholic mission and the transformative power of a Loras education steeped in Catholic intellectual tradition. I look forward to working with our exceptional faculty, staff, students, and alumni to build upon our strong foundation and lead Loras into the future.”

Collins, Loras College’s longest-serving president, will retire at the end of the spring 2025 semester after 20 years in the role. The president said in a previous interview that he hopes to “work harder this year than any year prior” to promote the college’s capital campaign, develop initiatives aimed at growing enrollment and helping transition Doyle into the presidency.

“Mike Doyle’s deep understanding of Loras College, combined with his impressive track record in fundraising and financial management, make him the ideal candidate to lead our institution into its next chapter,” said Rich Scalise, chair of the Loras College Board of Regents, in the release. “His vision for the future of Loras and his commitment to our mission are inspiring.”
